Three Tips to Save on Energy Bills

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

If you’re like me then you’re always on the lookout for tips to help save money. Especially now when it seems that everything is going up in price! I did some research, and came up with the top three tips to help save on your energy bills that I wanted to pass along to you.

1. Check your filters!

This is extremely important as a clogged, or dirty filter will cause your system to work harder to get the air to flow through your home. It’s recommended that you check your filters monthly especially during heavy heating and cooling months.

2. Regular Tune Ups!

I know I’ve mentioned it before, but it truly is the best way to ensure that your system is running at peak efficiency. Remember that reliable performance from your comfort system doesn’t just happen. Like a car your home comfort system requires regular tune ups to be able to run efficiently. If you have a heat pump or gas furnace with air conditioner it’s recommended that it’s tuned up twice per year, once in the cooling season and once in the heating season. If you have a gas furnace only it’s recommended once per year during the heating season. This is especially important for older systems!

3. Seal Windows and Doorways

This one is pretty well known, but it’s still serves as an important reminder. If you have any leaks or cracks, seal them up! This will result in less air being leaked through causing your heating system to work extra hard.

Give these tips a try, and make a difference in your monthly bill!

Fall is on the Way!

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

When I left for work this morning, I noticed that it was a bit chillier (I think I just made up a word.) than normal. When I looked at my thermometer it read 57 degrees. It just confirmed in my mind that Autumn weather is indeed on its way! I’ve always loved fall, I’m not sure why other than some of my most favorite things happen in the fall. Football, birthdays, Thanksgiving, etc…it’s just a great time of year! Of course with fall, comes the responsibility of preparing for the much colder weather ahead. One of the responsibilities is preparing your comfort system to be ready to tackle the colder weather with a precision tune up.

By performing a precision tune up, you are ensuring that everything is in proper, working order to keep you warm all winter long. Did you know that it is manufacturer recommended that you perform regular scheduled tune ups for your comfort system(s). Not only does it help your system run at peak efficiency, it also helps to save you money by alerting you to minor problems before they turn into major. Saving you time and money. Our precision tune ups are the most thorough in the High Country. In fact, their so thorough they take about an hour to complete!

Well, as I wrote last Friday the first round of Maintenance Visits are starting up this week. I always get excited this time of year because it means that Spring is here, and summer is around the corner! Many people ask what a Maintenance Visit consists of, so I thought I would provide a look into what we do.

  • Tighten electrical connections
  • Lubricate all moving parts
  • Measure volts/amps on motors
  • Test starting capabilities
  • Analyze carbon monoxide threats
  • Clean filter
  • Clean accessible evaporator coil
  • Measure superheat temperature
  • Monitor refrigerant pressures
  • Adjust thermostat calibrations
  • And much, much more!

In fact our Maintenance Visits are so thorough that it normally takes and hour to complete the visit! If you’re intrested in learning more, please call us at 828-264-6625 today!
